InterCity APT – the Imperial’s curtain call on the track
The new IEP (Intercity Express Project – Hitachi) and Class 700 (Siemens) was blamed since their first mile on the British track, dodgy quality, horrible internal decoration, and most importantly, the on-board passenger iron-board (thanks for their generous) seats. However, apart from the vital failure and flooding complaints, multi-million pound orders has still been made, and more and more of them started to appear on our railways. However, there was a train thirty years ago, started with a much more ambitious goal, being left in the history and a track in suburban Crewe just after a series of glitches. The InterCity APT.
This article will be kept updating in the future year or two to give a general overview of APT, revealing the archives from my aspect.
